Custom Home in West Asheville
BeforeThe building was a 24x48 cinder block shell that had been a machine shop for many years. We cut windows and doors, built walls, super-insulated, poured a radiant floor slab on top of the old slab... Major makeover
KitchenCustomers found cabinets on Craig's List and we made butcher block hardwood countertops out of Ash
Ultra-efficient heat systemThere is one on-demand water heater that generates radiant floor heat for the home, as well as domestic hot water. This all fits in a small closet, and is extremely efficient. With the super-insulation, this 1250sf home heats in the winter for under $40/month.
Passive solar designThis large window faces south, and gathers lots of winter warmth. It's also a favorite spot for cats :-)
The master bedroom loft has a window, with custom cedar doors, overlooking the living room.
BathroomLocal eastern cedar was used to cover the walls behind the tub, adding warmth and functional protection, without the cool/hardness of tile.
